Faux fur items come with several benefits. They cost less than natural fur, are more animal-friendly, and come in several different fashion styles. Unlike natural fur, faux fur is also more resistant to insect damage, humidity, and temperature changes. Whatever your reason may be for choosing faux fur, it’s important to note that faux fur garments need the same care and love as natural fur to keep them looking their best.
Although most of faux fur clothing care labels advice professional dry cleaning only, faux fur garments can be both machine and hand washed at home. If you aren’t sure, we suggest you to consult with the professional dry cleaners at 5th Avenue EnRoute Cleaners.

Step #1: Mix Water-Detergent Solution
Hand-washing is usually the most preferred option washing all kinds of faux fur items. For large blankets, throws, and coats, the washing can be done in a bathtub or large plastic container. The first step is to fill the basin or sink with cold water and then add one or two teaspoons fill of gentle/mild detergent. Make sure the detergent is color-safe.
Step #2: Soak the Faux Fur
Once the water-detergent solution is prepared, it is time to place your faux fur in it. Let the fur soak in the solution for ten to fifteen minutes and gently swish. Avoid excessive wringing, agitation, and soaking for longer periods since it can harm the backing of the faux fur.
Step #3: Rinse Soap
Take the fur out of the water and gently squeeze the soapy solution out of it with your hands. Throw the soapy water away and fill the container with fresh clean water. Rinse the faux fur till there are no suds remaining.
Step #4: Squeeze Excess Water and Air Dry
Next, squeeze out the clean water from the fur gently with your hands. To remove excess water, you can also roll the faux fur in a thick towel. Once all the water is removed, place the fur on a drying rack and let air dry.
Step #5: Fur Fluffing
Once the fur dries fully, it is time to fluff up the fur brushing it gently with a soft-bristled brush and restore its glory. You can also use a wide-toothed comb to loosen up stubborn fur knots.
